Cost of Shakeology
I’m sure that most of you are thinking “Shakeology sounds awesome, but it’s so expensive! There’s no way I can/want to pay $130 a month for it!” I definitely had the same reservations when we first heard about it. Not to mention, Brian and I BOTH drink it, so that equals TWO bags of Shakeology every month. You do the math. ouch. Since I’m a coach, I get a 25% discount, so that helps a little.
You have to approach it a little differently though. If you take $130 divided by 30, it means that you’re spending $4.33 per day for your Shakeology (If you have the coach’s discount, it’s only $3.25). I want you to think about something unhealthy or frivilous that you spend about $4 per day on. Do you run into Starbucks every morning? McDonalds during your lunch break? Do you waste money on little snacks? Cigarettes? Alcohol?
“Shakeology costs just over $4 per serving for high-quality antioxidants, powerful vitamins and minerals, more than 70 superfoods, super-greens/ phytonutrients, crucial proteins, essential amino acids, prebiotics, digestive enzymes, good carbs, and low fat. If you purchased each ingredient separately, it would cost more than $700. So while Shakeology might seem expensive at first, really there’s no way you can eat healthier and spend less.”
(Shakeology Product Training Guide)
I completely understand that some people can’t afford to spend an extra $130 per month no matter how they budget their money. But I think that for a lot of others, it’s about their priorities. If being healthy is a priority for you, I would recommend taking a look at what you spend your money on and see if you can make room in your budget for Shakeology.

What is Shakeology?
Did you know that weight loss is only 20% exercise and 80% nutrition? What you put into your body plays a huge part in whether or not you’re able to lose the weight that you want to. Beachbody has a meal replacement drink called Shakeology that makes it easy to get all of the nutrients that your body needs. According to the Shakeology Product Training Guide,
“Shakeology® is the most delicious, nutrient-dense, superfood-packed protein shake on the planet. It’s made with the healthy stuff you should be eating every day, but typically don’t. Shakeology’s the perfect combination of proteins, phytonutrients, antioxidants, enzymes, prebiotics, and probiotics. Plus, it also contains many rare ingredients, including adaptogens, camu-camu, and sacha inchi—things we can’t get from an ordinary diet. So whether you use Shakeology for weight loss, or drink it to optimize your health, this powerful and delicious shake is Your Daily Dose of Dense NutritionTM.”
Shakeology comes in several flavors- chocolate, vegan chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, vegan tropical strawberry, and greenberry. You can mix it up with water or milk, but from my experience, milk tastes a whole lot better! I typically use almond milk and blend in a couple of bananas to thicken it up.
Shakeology is sold either in a bag with 30 servings, or in a box that contains 24 individual packets. Each bag/box costs $129.99 and will last for about a month. The packets are perfect for people who want to be able to mix up a shake away from home, but you don’t get as many servings for your money because you end up paying for the extra packaging. You can sign up for home direct shipping, which means that a new bag of Shakeology will be automatically mailed to you at the same time each month. The shipping cost for home direct customers is only $2!

How Much Water?
Everyone knows that it's important to drink water. But how much water do we really need to drink? I was always told that 8 glasses was the magical number. Apparently, that's not quite accurate. It actually varies from person to person depending on their weight. Obviously someone who weighs 200 pounds is going to require more water than someone who is 100 pounds. I found this awesome article that enlightened me.
I should probably let you know that I'm already a "water drinker". I've never been a milk fan (unless it's chocolate) and carbonated beverages make me feel gross, so I've always just stuck with water and smoothies as my liquids. But after reading this article, I realized that I'm not drinking nearly enough water!
According to their calculations (take your body weight and multiply it by .67), I should be drinking 74 ounces of water every day! yikes! And on the days that I exercise, I need to add an additional 12 more ounces. I have a 16 oz. Nalgene water bottle that I keep in my fridge. When it's empty, I refill it, but I don't really pay attention to how many times I refill it during the day. In order to get my 74 ounces of water, I need to finish 4.5 bottles. To help me keep track, I created this nifty little chart:
The dashed lines divide the bottle into 8 oz. sections. Brian's Nalgene is 32 oz., so this is his water chart:
I made these in a 4x6 format so I can put them in frames and stick them to the fridge. Then we can use a dry erase marker to keep track of how much water we've been drinking. Is this something that would help you? Are you shocked by how much water you SHOULD be drinking?
